A loan helped to buy organic manure.

Elizabeth's story

Elizabeth, 34, is married to Cayo and has two children living with her in her house made of adobe. Elizabeth works in agriculture and has two hectares of farmland she and her husband bought together more than ten years ago; since then it’s been their main source of economic support.

She works alongside her husband every day doing maintenance chores on her cocoa bean and coffee crops in order to yield good quality harvests that she sells to local buyers succeeding in recuperating the money she tends to invest in each planting season. She’s lucky to have such fertile land that leads to the best products.

Nevertheless, she tends to fertilize her farmland with organic manure. She’s also in the habit of hiring local laborers to help with the harvesting and weeding. What she enjoys the most about her work according to what she says is splitting the cocoa bean stalks with the help of a spoon to extract the cocoa beans that are then dried on large tarps in natural sunlight.

In her future plans is to be able to build her house out of substantial building materials in order to improve her family’s quality of life. On this occasion she needs 2,000 new soles to buy organic manure.
