A loan of $400 helped a member to buy fertilizer for his farmland.

Rithy's Group's story

Living in a rural area in the Ponhea Krek district of Kampong Cham province, Rithy is 23 years old and married with one child. He and his wife earn a living by farming cassava and planting rubber as the main source of the family’s income; he works for others for a fee for additional income. Having been in this business for three years, they are able to earn about 21,900 KHR per day to meet their family’s needs.

Rithy’s group consists of two members who live in the same village. He is a second loan cycle client with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund, and has completely repaid back the previous loan. He successfully used his first loan to support his family.

Now he is seeking a loan of 1,000,000 KHR while another group member is applying for 600,000 KHR from VisionFund. As the leader, he will use his loan portion to buy fertilizer for his farmland, and use a portion of it to spend on labor fees.

He hopes to earn more income to fulfill his dream of having a decent house to live in.
