Originally from a rural village of the Ponhea Krek district of Kampong Cham province, Noern is a 34-year-old mother of three children, two of whom are dependents and still in school. Cassava and rice farming have been the only source for her family’s income to make a living for the last 13 years. She and her husband also work as laborers. The current business earns her about 37,000 KHR per day.
Noern has been with VisionFund for one cycle and fully paid back the loan. Now she is requesting for another loan to buy fertilizer and pesticides for her farmland. She hopes to increase her crop yields so as to make a better living and keep her children in school.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
