Alex is a 40 years old young Tanzanian whose family is dedicated to farming and livestock keeping. He relatively lives a decent life compared to most of his neighbors. However, these days Alex and his family are passing through tough times as their family expenditure increases. As the dairy and farming represents his primary source of income, he is constantly looking at ways to reduce his operating costs. He has now decided to install a 6 cubic meter biodigester which allow his family to reduce energy and fertilizer costs, as well as give better treatment to their animal waste. Their cow manure will be processed by the digester into renewable methane-rich biogas and biofertilizer, allowing the reduction on dependence on costly and damaging kerosine and agrochemical fertilizers that degrade soils and contaminate groundwater.

About Tanzania Human Development Foundation

Tanzania Human Development Foundation (TAHUDE) is a non-profit organization that aims to tap into the different talents of men and women in Tanzania to effect positive changes in the lives of other people. Its current activities are aimed to promote renewable energy distribution such as solar power and biogas, community development, women empowerment, microfinance, children education, environmental conservation and more. Kiva loans will be used to help borrowers bring clean energy to their communities through biogas loans.

TAHUDE joined Kiva through our Experimental Partnership Program, and has therefore received a lighter level of due diligence. Accordingly, loans associated with this partner carry a higher level of risk than typical Kiva loans.
