A loan helped a member to buy local produce to sell.

Mary A.e.'s Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva, based in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you this group of teachers from Bo, a city in southern Sierra Leone.

This group of teachers has come to SMT to apply for a loan of SLL 6,200,000 for the entire group. With the help of this loan, they are being empowered to meet their most immediate and most pressing financial challenges. And at the end of each month, they can easily repay the loan, using their monthly salaries. It is their school’s bursar who is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

Mary A.E. is the featured leader of this group of teachers. Born in Moyamba town, the 52-year-old is married to a civil servant and the couple has three children who are attending secondary and tertiary academic institutions. Marie has been a professional teacher for 14 years now. She has requested this loan in order to invest it in business. She will use it to buy local produce to sell.

In this group: Mary A.e., Jane M., Annmarie Ghombo
