A loan of $1,025 helped to buy 10 loads of firewood, tractor spare parts and maintenance.

Siaka's story

Siaka is 33 years old, married and the father of 2 children. He lives with his wife and their children in a large traditional family in Hamdallaye, one of the popular districts of Sikasso town (third administrative region of the republic of Mali). Having had several failed businesses, he started buying and selling charcoal and firewood about 4 years ago. He gets his supplies from the surrounding villages and has his own tractor with which to transport them. He is much in demand by his customers because of the quality of his products. He decided to join the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution about 2 years ago in order to be able to better satisfy his growing clientèle and is on his 6th individual loan. The 5 previous loans have been correctly repaid. He plans to use this 6th loan to buy 10 loads of firewood and some spare parts for his tractor, and to pay for maintenance on it. Thanks to this loan, he expects to make a monthly profit of 200 000 francs which he will use to build up his working capital, contribute to the family expenses and repay the interest on his loan.
