A loan of $375 helped to hire laborers from the area.

Adela's story

Adela is a 40 year old single woman who is proud to have gotten her 3 children ahead. She lives with them in her adobe house. When she turned 23, she started to work on land that her ex-husband had, growing the most profitable products in the area, such as organic cacao and barbasco. She says that at first it wasn't easy at all because she didn't have enough money to buy seeds and organic fertilizer, things that are necessary to obtain a good quality fruit. Right now, she has 3 hectares of crops where she grows barbasco, since the soil on her land is favorable for obtaining a good quality of that products. To harvest and latter sell the roots, she hires laborers from the area who very carefully dig up the stalks and wrap them in cords made from tree bark so they can be transported to the sales centers without losing their properties. They are used to make natural insecticide and for other commercial purposes. This is her first Kiva loan and she is grateful for the financial support she is getting to keep going ahead. She is committed to making her payments on time.

She would like to have 1,000 nuevos soles to hire laborers and harvest four fields of barbasco, which she does periodically.
