A loan of $900 helped to purchase organic fertiliser.

Mirtha's story

Mirtha is 27 years old and married to Jilmer, with whom she has a 5 year old son. She and her family live in a house they bought two years ago.

Mirtha is a farmer. She likes working in the field because she feels free and everything she grows is a result of her own effort. She sows peas, broad beans, corn, potatoes, leafy greens and other vegetables; however her priorities are her potato and pea crops because she is able to make the biggest profits from these crops.

Mirtha says “it’s been four years since I started cultivating the land and it is profitable, but everything depends on your perseverance and your willingness to take risks”. All of her work is aimed at improving the life of her family, since she knows that she needs to create a bright future for her son. Mirtha also has cows which give her milk and bulls which she uses to plow the land. One of her goals is to acquire her own land so that she can save on the rent that she pays every time she wants to sow in bulk.

This is Mirtha’s fifth loan with Kiva. She feels grateful for the financial support that she receives which allows her to move forward and she also promises to make her repayments punctually. Mirtha will invest 2500 soles in the purchase of organic fertiliser to provide nutrients for her fields.
