A loan of $375 helped to buy organic fertilizer.

Vilma's story

Vilma, age 39, is the courageous single mother of four children. She lives in her own house with two of her children. In spite of the constant struggle that she has to make by herself, she draws upon her strength to continue working. Vilma is a farmer. She has 20 years of experience growing peas, corn, and potatoes. She cares for them continuously. She says that what she likes the most about her work is being able to spend time in the field. “I like the peace that I find,” she asserts. She also benefits by taking care of her animals like cows and bulls. She takes care of them at the same time that she cares for her crops. She takes advantage of the milk that they provide in order to make cheese molds that she sells to the inhabitants in her area. Her greatest difficulty is the lack of working capital. That is why, a little while ago, she closed her food store. This is her fourth loan with Kiva. She is grateful for the financial support that she is getting in order to get ahead. She pledges to make her payments punctually. Vilma will use the 1,000 soles to buy organic fertilizer to nourish her crops.
