A loan of $1,425 helped a member to buy beauty products.

Bilakoro Group's story

The Bilakoro group is made up of 7 women who are all married and have an average age of 45 and, on average, 5 children. They live in traditional, extended families with their husbands, co-wives, brothers and sons in the Niebala district of Bougouni town. They got to know each other through neighbourly relationships, friendships and business. They joined the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution in order to strengthen their financial capacity so that they could better do business and are on their third loan. The previous two loans have been properly repaid. The women of the group sell beauty products via Souadou. She is the woman sitting on the left in the picture. She plans to use her loan to buy 15 boxes of beauty products containing pomades, creams, lotions, varnish, deodorants and perfumes from the local wholesalers. She makes her sales at the market and door-to-door for cash or credit to a retail clientèle mostly made up of women. She expects to make an average monthly profit of 40 000 francs which she will reinvest in her business and use to repay the loan.
