A loan of $2,550 helped a member to buy traditional medecines.

Benkadi Group's story

The Benkadi group is made up of ten women, who are all married and average 36 years of age with three children each. They live in traditional enlarged families with their husbands, other wives, brothers and sons in the Heremakono Nord district of the town of Bougouni.

They got to know each other as neighbors, friends and through trading. In order to boost their financial capacity and improve their trading businesses, they joined the microfinance institution, Soro Yiriwaso and are on their second loan. The previous loan was repaid in full.

This group of women trade in traditional medecines through Assetou, who is sitting on the far right of the photo. With her loan she is planning to buy a hundred bottles of medicine from manufacturers in Bougouni. She sells her products at the market and from home, on a retail basis, for cash and on credit to a customer base made up principally of women. She is planning to make an average monthly profit of 80,000FCFA, which will be invested in her business and used to repay her loan.

In this group: Awa, Aicha, Adia, Aissata, Tindie, Fatoumata, Assitan, Mariam, Assetou, Diodio
