A loan of $1,150 helped to build a biodigester.

Lydiah Mukwanyaga's story

Lydiah is a hard-working mother of three and widow from Eastern Kenya. She practices dairy farming and owns seven cows, which produce 45 liters of milk per day. Income from her milk sales is shared among her many financial responsibilities, including paying school fees for her children. She has also been using a big portion of this income to purchase fuel, and after being advised by VEP on how to save this amount of money, she opted for a biodigester to save on her day-to-day fuel costs. With a biodigester, Lydiah will be able to save money previously spent on charcoal, kerosene, and firewood. Time spent on firewood collection will also be saved, enabling her to spend more time with her family. The biodigester will also help promote a clean environment.
