A rural villager from Kam Rieng district of Battambang province, Sarorn is 31 years old and a mother of one son, who is too young for school. Sarorn is a farmer who grows rice as a main source of her family's income and also plants soybeans to earn extra income. She has been engaged in farming for one year and she is able to earn about 35,000 KHR per day to meet the family’s needs.
Sarorn has never been with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She is applying for a loan with VisionFund in the amount of 3,000,000 KHR to buy fertilizer and insecticide for her farmland and she will use some part of the loan to pay for labor fees. She hopes this loan can provide her with high crop yield and good income to make a better living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
