A loan of $100 helped to access high quality inputs such as fertilizer and improved seed that will double his yield and income.

Munkaila's story

Munkaila is a 35-year-old maize farmer and a Babban Gona member in the Marmara Village of Kaduna. He is excited about the opportunities Babban Gona provides him to grow his farm and looks forward to growing his farm further so he can move from a subsistence farmer to a real commercial farmer. Like all Babban Gona members, he has the opportunity to double his income and yield this season; he can expect to earn $1,350/ha, twice the average Nigerian farmers’ yearly income. With this increase in earnings, he hopes to continue using his profits to send his children to school. With this loan, he is on his way to achieving these dreams. His most recent loan from Babban Gona provided him with enough fertilizer to optimize his yields and allowed him access to a product that eliminates a food toxin in his maize, which enabled his family to eat healthier maize and helped him to get a premium price for the maize he sells.
