A loan of $3,875 helped a member to buy pork.

Estrellitas De Magisterio Group's story

The communal bank “ESTRELLITAS DE MAGISTERIO” is beginning its second cycle with the field partner through the field partner’s Santiago II regional office. This group is made up of eight members and is directed by a board of directors, of which Josefina is the president. The businesses of the members are varied and include vegetable sales, a corner store, knitting sweaters, blanket weaving, sewing of skirts, fruit sales and sales of chicharrón (a Bolivian dish made of pork).

The loan will be used in some small businesses of which Josefina is a member. She became a member of the field partner one year ago at the invitation of some members of the group. Josefina currently has a business selling chicharrón. She says that she learned this business seven years ago, when she noticed the possibility of selling this product in her area.

Josefina will use this loan to increase the capital of her business by buying pork from wholesalers in the city of El Alto. She will use the pork to make chicharrón and sell it in her area. She says that this business allows her to earn income to pay for as many of her household expenses as possible. She lives with her partner and has four children.

Asked what she likes about the field partner, Josefina says that she likes the training programs on credit and on health.

In this group: Josefina Irene, Tomasa, Adalid, Jacinta , Gregoria, Virginia, Herminia , Maritza
