A loan of $3,475 helped a member to purchase wool.

Estrellitas Del Mar Group's story

The community bank “Estrellitas del Mar” (starfish) begins its first cycle at Pro Mujer (For Women) as part Centro Focal de Achacachi (Achacachi Focal Center). The community bank is composed of eight members and is headed by a board where Juana is the President. Businesses that the community association members seek to get ahead are varied, among them are: potato production and sales, production and sales of vegetables, neighborhood store, and potato starch and production, sale of livestock, and blanket weaving. The loan they will take out will benefit small microenterprises where Juana is a member. She indicates that this is the first time that she is a member of Pro Mujer and that she received an invitation from a promoter of the institution who went to visit her home. Currently, she has a blanket weaving business; she learned this business from her mother, who taught her the art of weaving. The loan that she is taking out is to increase capital (purchase of wool) to purchase from the fairs of the city of El Alto. Then she will make the production in her retail space. This way of working allows her to generate resources to maintain, as much as possible, her home since she is married and has three children. When you ask what she likes about Pro Mujer, she says that she likes health training and credit.
