A loan of $550 helped to buy rice, sugar, milk, flour, and other food.

Marleny's story

Marleny, 33, is a happy woman. She lives with Pedro, her husband of 13 years. Together they have three children who live with them in their own home. Marleny has a grocery store where she sells staple items as well as kitchen accessories. She even set up a small hardware store to sell nails and other products. "In my store you can find everything," she said. Her biggest desire is to have a supermarket where everything is organized and set up. In addition to her business she raises guinea pigs, which she fattens and sells for a good price. Currently she has 70 guinea pigs. This is her second Kiva loan. She's grateful for the financial help she's receiving so she can get ahead. She also promises to make her payments punctually. Marleny will invest the 1500 soles [PEN] in staples for her grocery store: rice, sugar, milk, flour, and other products.
