A loan of $1,000 helped to buy a new fishing boat.

Teofilo's story

Teofilo is 58 years old, married and has two children. He is a fisherman and lives on an island in Lake Titicaca, a tourist area in the La Paz department. In this area, tourists can buy woolen and reed artisan products. The majority of the island's inhabitants make a living in the fishing and tourism industries. This is Teofilo's first cycle with the communal bank and he will use this loan to buy a fishing boat with a larger capacity. Teofilo sells his fish in the city of La Paz and, with this new boat, he wants to increase production and satisfy his customers demands. Teofilo is facing challenges in his business, such as the wind, causing high waves, which means that he cannot fish. Teofilo has a desire to get ahead and is happy and grateful to the institution for the support being provided. This work is Teofilo's only source of income for supporting himself.
