A loan of $1,450 helped to purchase merchandise, such as beauty products, foodstuffs and gifts for Christmas parties.

Mirtha's story

Mirtha is 45 years old. She is married to Julio who works in transportation. They live comfortably in their own house. Mirtha sells a variety of products, such as clothes, wallets, stuffed animals and costume jewelry, as well as items such as nail polish, beauty creams and perfume. She buys these products from catalogs, then sells them from her house to her friends and neighbors. She started this business over 10 years ago with her own capital, derived from her savings. She says that she decided to start her own business to help her husband with household expenses and to have income, in addition to having a job and feeling productive. This is her third Kiva loan and she is grateful for the financial support she receives, which helps her get ahead; she also commits to paying her fees on time. With the 4000 soles she has just requested, she will be able to purchase merchandise such as beauty products, foodstuffs and gifts for Christmas and New Year parties, which will allow her to increase her stock. She will try to obtain good deals so that she can get better earnings.
