Dunia Yanely's story

Dunia, 29, is a housewife, coffee grower, merchant and mother of two children; her oldest is in elementary school and her youngest is in Kindergarten. She and her housemate work hard daily in order to get ahead. She completed elementary school thanks to the financial support she got from her family. She has been growing coffee for more than five years, something she learned from her parents, and at present she and her housemate work the land grateful to their parents for the legacy of farmland they passed down to them that she and he work together and that are very close to their home which helps them keep good control of their crops.

She has requested financial support from the Comixmul cooperative to be able to buy agricultural supplies that will help her keep her coffee crops protected from La Roya [fungus] and La Broca [insect pest] among other pests and illnesses that damage the crop.

Her future plan is to be able to grow a wider variety of coffee to offer and to compete in the marketplace in order to be able to get ahead and one day be able to export it as a quality products. Her dream for her business and for her family is to obtain larger crop yields as mentioned previously and to be able to complete her children’s schooling up to the final level which is university.
