A loan of $775 helped to buy groceries for her store.

Celia Maritza's story

In the town of Cadi in Colon parish in the city of Portoviejo, the members of the communal bank "Nueva Illusion" meet every 15 days. This is a place that is known for its hardworking people who work in agriculture and livestock production.

This is where Celia, 48, lives. She is married, and she and her husband have 6 grown children. Two of the children study at the university and live with her, along with a granddaughter who is like a daughter to her. Celia's husband works as a farmer.

Celia has a small store where she sells all types of basic consumer goods such as: vegetables, housewares, and stationery. She also has some telephone cabins, and sells cell phone recharges from various cellular providers. She works every day from 6am until 6pm, and even later some days. She's had this store for more than 14 years, and with her businesses she generates earnings that are a big help to her family, since her husband doesn't earn very much from his work in the fields.

Celia will use this loan to buy groceries, because she wants to expand her business. She is a founding member of her communal bank, and she likes it because of the help that is provided with these loans.

Celia's goal is to have a much bigger store.
