A loan of $1,475 helped to purchase ice cream, sodas and sandwiches.

María Carmita's story

In the parish of Portoviejo, the members of the Communal Bank "Crucita" or "The Crossing" meet. This town is known for its beautiful beaches that line the pretty locale and that are often visited by national and international tourists. It is known by the name "Crucita la Bella" or "Beautiful Crossing." María lives in this beautiful place. She is 53 years old and is single, but she has a son from a previous relationship who is married and lives with her along with his wife and two minor children. María has an ice cream shop in her home where she sells ice cream from the brand "Pinguino," or Penguin. She also sells sodas and sandwiches for snacks in order to satisfy her customers. She works every day from 8am until 8pm, and has been in the business for 22 years. She was one of the first to begin this type of business in her town and thus she was able to get ahead alone and to offer the best to her son so that he could become a good man. This loan is to buy ice cream, sodas and sandwiches for snacks. María has been in the Communal Bank from the beginning and she likes it for the help that they always offer via loans. Her dreams are to continue working and to have good health.
