Julio Ándres

A loan of $800 helped to buy five bags of manure and three litres of herbicides. The rest will be used to buy chickens to fatten up, and chicken feed, in order to increase the family income.

Julio Ándres's story

Julio is 61 years old. He is married and has six children. From a very young age, he made a living growing basic grains. He learned this trade from his father, though, throughout his life, he has worked in various jobs, with the aim of helping his family get ahead. One of his jobs was working for the municipal police some time ago but he decided to leave this work because of the dangers it entailed. He thus decided to return to the farming work that he is trained to work in.

Julio buys supplies for his basic grains in the community, having to transport them 20 minutes in a pick up truck to get them to the land where he grows his crops.

Part of this loan will be used to buy five bags of manure and three litres of herbicides. The rest will be used to buy chickens to fatten up, and chicken feed, in order to increase the family income.

This loan will improve the family's quality of living as it will provide Julio with an opportunity to increase production, thus generating a higher income for the household. This, in turn, will give Julio's children - currently in primary school - the opportunity to complete at least high school.

In the future, Julio is thinking about increasing his basic grain crops as this has always put food on the table for his family. However, in addition, he would like to build a pen to fatten up chickens, increase his income and grow alongside his family.
