Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Mamie's story

Mamie is 47 years old and lives in Logan Town, one of the early communities of Liberia that is well known. She is unmarried and has four children between the ages of 9 and 23, including some who are in school and live at home. Mamie did not attend school. For the past six years, she has been running a store where she sells fashion clothes such as jeans and blouses, and African clothes such as dresses, blouses and slippers. She started this business with her small savings and established it by learning the ways of selling from her friends. She likes her business because she makes a profit and it keeps her busy. She is requesting a loan to buy more fashion clothes and African clothes for her business. Her plans are to build a house and educate her children.
