Josephine is a 28-year-old married woman with four children; she lives in Poblacion 3, Clarin, Misamis Occidental. Her husband works as an electrician and she helps him to augment their living situation by operating a service-based business providing motorcycle rentals and transportation. She also has a sari sari store selling goods in their local community. Recently, she joined Gata Daku MPC and borrowed a loan amount to buy additional goods like dairy products and canned goods; a portion will also be used for motorcycle repairs. She is hopeful to improve her business and to see her children become successful in the future.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
