A loan of $1,375 helped to buy polyethylene for making plastic bags.

Juan Manuel's story

Juan is twenty-three and lives in the city of Barranquilla in the department of Atlántico with his wife. They do not have children yet. His business involves making plastic bags which he sells at stores in different neighborhoods in Barranquilla, at the city's central market, and at stores in the towns of Soledad and Sabanagrande. He buys the polyethylene he uses to make the bags in cash and sells the bags on credit. He went out on his own six years ago, but learned the business thirteen years ago, when he was ten, from his father. He started out helping his father make bags and distribute them to stores and businesses that asked for them. When his father reached an advanced age, he gave the entire business to Juan. This is Juan's first Kiva loan with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, and he'll use it to buy polyethylene for making the plastic bags. He hopes to buy at lower prices so he can offer better prices to his customers and keep them loyal to his business. He also has some future goals: to get better machines to improve infrastructure; and to buy his own house so when he has children they can live better.
