A loan of $1,000 helped to buy bricks, cement, sand and iron in order to put in a bathroom and washbasin, since his house does not have these basic services.

José Adelio's story

José is 38 years old and has a partner and two children. He has worked in agriculture since childhood, learning the work from his father who taught his son to work very hard in order to provide for the household. Now with a house of his own José has been able to successfully meet all of his household commitments. He feels that with this work he can get by economically throughout his life, but he also works in a workshop where he is the driver. This gives him an extra income which means he can cover all of his household expenses.

He buys his family's food and the materials he needs for his work in the nearest city some 6 kilometres away. However there is limited transport and he has to wait hours for the bus. From where he gets off the bus he has to walk a kilometre to his house which is hard work when he has to carry his purchases.

José is asking for the loan to buy bricks, cement, sand and iron in order to put in a bathroom and washbasin, since his house does not have these basic services. The main aim in building the bathroom and basin is to have more privacy. If he buys all of the materials at once he will save some money since they will work out cheaper and similarly the transport will be cheaper.

His future plans are to carry on working very hard to pay off his loan and later to enlarge his house and have a better way of life with his family.
