A loan of $300 helped to purchase five sacks of compost so he can use them in his coffee crop and obtain a better harvest.

Lucas's story

Lucas is 63 years old and married. He has five children, but only three grandchildren live with him. He grows corn and coffee and he has been in this line of work all his life. He learned the business because his parents used to work on that and all the neighbors work in coffee plantations and sow corn.

He buys the supplies in a town located about 30 minutes from his home, and he walks for about 10 minutes in order to get on one of the pick-up trucks that carry passengers.

He'll use the loan to purchase five sacks of compost so that he can use them in his coffee crop and obtain a better coffee harvest.

By using the fertilizers he'll ensure that his harvest will improve and that his farm will yield more profits. Also, he'll obtain higher earnings for his family and for continuously investing in the farm.

His goal is to sow the waste lands, grow coffee on them and improve his farms.
