A loan of $825 helped to purchase grains.

Drissa's story

Born in December 1965 in Godiarala, in Commune de Farako, Mr. Drissa lives in FAKOLA City (Sub-prefecture of the 3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali) with his five children and wife in a nuclear family. Mr. Drissa soon became interested in revenue-generating businesses, especially the buying and selling of grains (corn, sorghum), peanuts, beans, etc. He is much in demand at the market, particularly when the fair is in town.

With six good years of experience in this domain, he is collaborating with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to increase his capital in order to satisfy his customer base, which is ever-growing. He is now on his seventh loan after having repaid the previous ones.

Drissa intends to use his loan to purchase 1½ tonnes of millet. He gets his supplies from the producers in neighboring villages. At the market, he makes his sales retail and in bulk to a customer base composed of men and women paying cash and sometimes on credit.

Drissa hopes to make an average monthly profit of 100,000 francs CFA that will be used to meet family needs, repay the loan, and reinvest the rest in his business.
