Fred is 33 years old, married, and has six dependents. Three of his dependents come from a very needy home owned by an old man. He deals in cattle fattening and milking because his major source of income is from his 70 diary cows. It's through milk sales that Fred has managed to look after his family and his parents. He provides them with medication, pays tuition for his school-going children, and is constructing a permanent house for the family.

Fred is applying for a loan of 3,000,000 UGX to buy more cows for milk, to increase his milk production and also buy vet drugs for the cows. His major challenge is the dry season, which leads to inadequate grass to feed his animals and a lack of water (due to the prolonging dry season) which leads to a decrease in milk supply. His dream is to own a milk-cooling plant in his region. Fred is very hardworking. In the photo is Fred (left) with the Ugafode credit officer at his farm.

This loan is part of UGAFODE's program for clients who live in isolated rural areas with limited access to financial services. The organization believes that the risk of offering services to remote clients is outweighed by the benefits to customers and their often underserved communities.
