A loan of $900 helped buy school supplies and groceries.

Betsi Maritza's story

Betzi has been a lively, charismatic member of the Mujeres Triunfadoras group for ten years. In that time she has formed very good relationships with her companions and other group members. She lives in the Arenal neighbourhood of the town of Cuenca, a place known for its cool climate. Since 1999 it has been World Heritage Site because of its beautiful architecture. The local food is very varied and enjoyed greatly by all who visit. The local people are friendly and kind, and even today maintain the culture and traditions of their ancestors.

Sra. Betzi is 45 years old and lives with her common-law husband and their three children aged 23, 19, and 18. Her older daughter is studying at university in Cuenca, her second daughter helps with her business which Betzi runs out of her home, and her son is a college student. Betzi's husband is a businessman. They don't own a house so live in rented accommodation.

Betzi is a housewife but she has also run a stationery store and a grocery store for three years where she works every day without a fixed schedule. She plans to use the loan money to buy school supplies and stock for her business.

Her goal is to own a house.
