A loan of $475 helped to buy cosmetics, perfumes, clothes and shoes that her customers have ordered.

Karen Maria's story

Karen is a young woman, just 18 years old, who lives in the city of Barranquilla in the department of Atlántico. She lives with her parents in this city, also known nationally as “la arenosa” (the Sandy City). Her business activity is the buying and selling of products like perfumes, deodorants, colognes, cosmetics, hand and body creams, clothes and shoes for ladies and gentlemen. She acquires these products by orders from catalogue magazines and she also brings them from the city of Medellín, of the department of Antioquia, Colombia. She buys with cash and on credit. She also sells for cash and on credit, to neighbors, friends and relatives. She started this business one year ago, which she learned as a girl, helping her aunt and her mother who also made a living at this type of business.

This is her first Kiva loan with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo which she will apply to the purchase of cosmetics, perfumes, clothing and shoes that her customers have ordered from her. With this investment she hopes to continue to increase her capital, give more time to her customers, increase her help to her parents and to be able to complete her technical studies.
