A loan of $700 helped to buy a bag of seeds, ten sacks of fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides.

Santos De Jesús's story

Santos, age 49, is a widow and lives with one of her children. She has been growing corn since she was 20 years old. It was with her husband that she learned about the need to support him in bringing sustenance to the children. He taught her how to help the crop. After she learned, her husband worked to earn a living. She and her small children took care of the corn.

Now, at age 49, she works at a ranch. Her husband was the one who worked, but upon his death they allowed her to replace him. She also has two cows. She has always liked animals. She says that she gets up at 4:00 a.m. in order to make her breakfast. She then goes to leave her animals at the pasture. Then she goes to work, which takes her some 15 minutes walking from her house. She works six hours and then returns home.

She buys the materials in the city. In order to get there she needs to walk for 35 minutes. She lives one kilometer from the road on which the bus to the city goes. The trip is 40 minutes.

The loan that she is requesting from the Fundación Campo is to buy a bag of seeds, ten sacks of fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides. This way she will buy the supplies for the crop. She already has the land prepared, but she needs the money for the supplies. That is why she is requesting the loan so that she can plant. This will guarantee corn for the whole year.

Her dream is to build her own house. She now lives with her son. She also dreams of being able to buy three more cows. In the future she dreams of having five dairy cows.
