Edmundus originates from a mountainous areas in the northern Middle Eastern Indonesia, NTT, precisely in the village of Sallu, Miomaffo western, eastern Indonesia. He left home alone, leaving his parents and three siblings, to study management at the harbor administration Commerce and Maritime Academy Nusantara, on the island of Java, in the city of Cilacap. The distance from his home village to the town of Cilacap is very far away. The expectation of his parents is that Edmundus will be diligent and quickly complete college.

All efforts are made by his parents to help Edmundus; his father is as a civil servant in his city. His mother does not work, simply relying on her husband's salary to provide for the family and they have to pay the schooling for their four children. Edmundus is deeply saddened by the situation of his parents, so he is determined to quickly complete his studies. He hopes, with loans from Kiva lenders, he can overcome these difficulties. Edmundus hopes to quickly get a job in a shipping company.

This loan is part of a YSBS higher education program through affiliate YPPK designed to help high-achieving high school graduates afford higher education at a top maritime academy. Akademi Maritim Nusantara trains students in ship engineering, nautical science, and maritime economics, and helps them find jobs after graduation. By funding this zero-interest loan, you are supporting a student who couldn’t otherwise afford higher education. Students are expected to repay in monthly installments after they are employed.
