A loan of $500 helped a member to buy fertilizer for her farmland.

Sinak's Group's story

Sinak is a 27-year-old young mother of one son who is too young for school. Her family is living in a rural village in Moung Russey district of Battambang province, Cambodia. To make a living, she has been farming rice on two hectares of farmland. She also raises pigs for additional income. Her husband works for other fees to earn extra income.

She has been involved with this business for five years and earns about 23,900 KHR per day. She is a group leader for a 2-person group. This is her second time borrowing from Kiva’s partner VisionFund. She fully repaid her previous loan, which provided her with better living conditions. Now she is seeking a loan of 1,200,000 KHR, while her other group member is applying for 800,000 KHR. She will use her loan portion to buy fertilizer for her farmland and to pay for other fees associated with farming and raising pigs. She hopes this loan will enable her to earn more income from the crop yield and help her pigs grow quickly so they can be sold for a good price.
