Nat, a rural villager from Takeo province's Tram Kok district, is 40 years old. Nat has earned a living through selling snacks for two years, while her husband is a teacher. Nat is able to save up to 4 US dollars per day from her current business after deducting expenses.

This is the first-cycle loan for Nat with Kiva's partner, VisionFund. This cycle, she is applying for an education loan to cover the school fees for her son, a 20-year-old freshman in a local university. She highly hopes that this loan will enable her to send her son to university to obtain a higher education background and end up with a good job after graduation in order to support the family.

VisionFund Cambodia has designed a lower-interest rate loan product for students, given the financial benefits associated with financing this loan upfront on Kiva. It is disbursed to the borrower in annual installments.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
