Athanasius comes from the small islands in eastern Indonesia; precisely, the village Letvuan, in the islands of Kei Kecil, in the region of Southeast Maluku. He left his parents and two brothers to study management for Commerce and Harbour Administration in the Nusantara Maritime Academy (AMN), on the island of Java, in the city of Cilacap. Currently, he has been accepted as a prospective student in AMN.

Both parents work as farmers and they have irregular income, because it is influenced by weather and the growing seasons. To comply with the expectations of his parents, and, in order to learn diligently and quickly complete his college education, Athanasius will work hard. All efforts are being made to help his parents, since his parents are just farmers. Athanasius is very saddened by the condition of his parents. He is determined to quickly complete his studies. He hopes, with a loan from investors from Kiva, he can help overcome their difficulties. Athanasius hopes to quickly get a job in a shipping company.

This loan is part of a YSBS higher education program through affiliate YPPK designed to help high-achieving high school graduates afford higher education at a top maritime academy. Akademi Maritim Nusantara trains students in ship engineering, nautical science, and maritime economics, and helps them find jobs after graduation. By funding this zero-interest loan, you are supporting a student who couldn’t otherwise afford higher education. Students are expected to repay in monthly installments after they are employed.
