A loan of $675 helped a member to pay for farm inputs, seeds, and plowing.

Benkadi Iii Group's story

The members of the group "BENKADI III" are married women, who average 44 years of age and six children each, all living in polygamous families in BOGOTIERI, a village in Commune de ZANGARADOUGOU, in the 3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali: SIKASSO. The women are collaborating with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to carry out their farm work during the rainy season. They are on their ninth loan with the institution. The past loans were indeed paid back.

The crop grown is peanuts, as is the case with AFOU, who is standing first from the left in the photo. With her loan, she intends to pay for plowing and fertilizer to maintain 1 hectare.

After the harvest, the produce is sold to men and women customers in villages and in SIKASSO. She plans on making a profit of 145,000 francs CFA per planting. This profit will enable her to pay back her loan and also to help her husband to cover day-to-day expenses.
