Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,500 helped to buy sand, cinder blocks, and cement and pay labor costs to build a room on his house.

Alexis Manrique's story

Alexis is 29 years old and unmarried. He has been working for the water utility company for eight years. He has a lot of experience and has learned a good deal from his work colleagues. Before starting his job at the water company, he completed his high school degree. He gets up every day at 4 a.m. to get ready for work. He starts work at 7 a.m. and walks 40 minutes to get there.

He is requesting this loan from Fundación Campo to buy sand, cinder blocks, and cement and pay labor costs to build a room on his house because he plans to have his own family in the future. Once he has built the extra room, he will be much more comfortable, since his house is very small and he feels that he doesn't have enough space. It will also give him a place to share with his wife.

He plans to keep working hard to pay off his debt to Fundación Campo so he can take out another loan and do improvements on his whole house.
