Mougnou Group's story

The six members of the Mougnou group are married women who on average are 42 years old with five children. They live mostly in monogamous families in Kamalen Sirakoro, a populous neighborhood in the city of Sikasso, 3rd administrative region of Mali.

They are on their third loan with the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution to meet the needs of their customers.

Ms. Konimba been trading condiments in the Mougnou group of women. She is sitting in first position from right to left in the photo.

She intends to use the loan to buy 25 kg of dried okra, 150 kg of onions and 20 kg of smoked fish. She will resell for cash at retail prices, on site with family members, to a client base consisting of a majority of women.

She expects average monthly profits of 18,000 CFA francs, a portion of which is used to pay off the loan and its interest, and the remainder put into savings.
