Dembagnouma Group's story

The seven members of the Dembagnouma group are essentially married women who on average are 36 years old with five children. They live mostly in monogamous families in Kamalen Sirakoro, a populous neighborhood in the city of Sikasso, 3rd administrative region of Mali.

They are on their third loan with the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution to meet the needs of their customers.

Ms. Aminata been trading condiments in the Dembagnouma group of women. She is the first person sitting from right to left in the photo.

She intends to use the loan to buy 20 kg of dried okra, and three 50-kg bags of onions. She resells them for cash at retail prices, on the spot assisted by family members, to a client base consisting for the most part of women.

She expects average monthly profits of 12,500 CFA francs, a portion of which is used to pay off the loan and its interest and the remainder put into savings.
