A loan of $1,800 helped a member to buy perfumes and creams.

Dorado Group's story

The members of 'Dorado' community bank are about to start their first loan cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Panamericana regional office. The group has six members and is run by a board of directors which has Sonia as its treasurer. The businesses that the group's members are engaged in are varied and include selling cosmetics, running a liquor store, running a small restaurant and selling flip flops.

The loan that they are taking out will benefit these small businesswomen. Sonia is a member of this group. She says that she joined Pro Mujer four years ago, through an invitation from a loan officer who came to visit her at home. Sonia has a business selling cosmetics. It was her husband who advised her to set up her business and she has been running it for twelve years. It is very profitable and allows her to spend time with her children.

Sonia is taking out this loan to increase her merchandise. She will buy perfumes and creams from wholesale suppliers and then sell them from her sales space. This work allows her to make income with which to support her household. She is married and has two children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, Sonia replied that she likes the group meetings.
