Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Pilar's story

Pilar was born in the city of Sicuani but lives with her family in the beautiful city of Paucartambo, Cusco Department. She’s 53-years-old and in a common law relationship; she has three children she supports.

She alternates her household activities with the sale of dry grains like lima beans, barley and potatoes. She has a small stand in one of Paucartambo’s municipal markets where she sells her products. She runs the business and tends to customers very kindly and courteously which is why they always return to buy. She’s been in this business for several years now and does very well thanks to the effort she puts into her work.

She belongs to the “Mamacha Carmen” communal bank and on this occasion needs the loan to buy dry grains like corn, lima beans, barley, wheat and others. She is grateful for and values the loan and commits to make her monthly installment payments very responsibly.
