Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Irene's story

Irene lives in Kampala, Uganda, is married with five children, and none of her children go to school. She takes care of other additional family members. She operates a beauty salon at the market on a retail basis. She has been in business for the last five years. She works seven days a week. Irene has no other source of income. She has requested from MCDT – SACCO a loan of 900,000 UGX to buy hair treatments, oils, relaxers, shampoo, and a hand dryer. Her major challenge is seasonality and transportation. She lives in a rented house and her family has access to piped water and electricity. Her goal and aspiration is to buy a fridge and more hand dryers to ease her work. Her major monthly expenses include medication and food.
