A loan of $1,675 helped a member to purchase farm inputs and seeds and to pay for plowing during the planting season.

Sanya Iii Group's story

The members of the group "SANYA III" are married women, who average 36 years of age and four children each, all living in polygamous families in NERIKO, a village in the Sous-Préfecture de KOLONDIEBA (3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali). The women are collaboring with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to carry out their farm work during the rainy season. They are on their seventh loan with the institution. The past loans were indeed paid back.

The crop grown is peanuts, as is the case with FANTA, who is the first person sitting at the right in the photo. With her loan, she intends to purchase some farm inputs and seeds and to pay for plowing to make use of 1.5 hectares.

After the harvest, the produce is sold in the village and at the market to men and women customers. She plans on making a profit of 115,000 francs CFA per planting. This profit will enable her to pay back her loan and also to help her husband to cover day-to-day expenses.

In this group: Fanta, Awa Amidou, Fatoumata Yaya, Fatoumata Arouna, Maimouna, Chata Soumaila, Biba, Alima, Minata, Awaba
