A loan of $975 helped a member to buy fertilizers and seeds and to pay for labor for the farming season.

Sabougnouma Iii Group's story

The members of the Sabougnouma III group are married women, who average 33 years of age with four children each and who all live in polygamous families in Tiguiya, one of the villages in the sub-prefecture of Kolondieba, Mali's third administrative region.

They are collaborating with the microfinance institution, Soro Yiriwaso, with the aim of carrying out their farming activities successfully during the winter season. They are on their eighth loan with the institution and the previous loans have been repaid in full.

Bintou, who is standing in the middle of the photo, grows groundnut. With her loan, she is planning to buy fertilizers and seeds as well as to pay for labor to farm a hectare of land.

Once harvested, the produce is sold in the village and in Kolondieba to a customer base made up of men and women.

Bintou is expecting to make a profit of 85,500FCFA per season. This profit will enable her to repay her loan and also to help her husband with the daily expenses.
