A loan of $300 helped to purchase organic fertilizer.

Bertha's story

Bertha is a modest 40 year old woman. She lives with her young daughter whom she cares for in the house that she purchased a few years ago.

From the early hours of each day, for about 30 years now, she goes over the farmland which she inherited from her parents, and on which she grows a variety of agricultural products such as broad beans, potatoes and other regional products. She says that she likes working on the land, and that twice a year she plants a variety of products which she later harvests and sells in the nearest city, although at times shop keepers/traders come directly to her region.

She now wishes to continue improving her crops, as she will shortly begin sowing seeds and would like to improve daily. This is her first loan from KIVA, and she is grateful for the financial support which allows her to move forward. She is also committed to making her payments in a punctual manner. Bertha will use the 800 soles to purchase organic fertilizer to nourish the fields.
