Kankélé Group's story

Kankélé is a group of women from Darsalam I, in Koutiala, who know each other well and live in large traditional families with their husbands, children, and other family members. On average, they are 41 years old and have five children.

They conduct various activities such as the sale clothing, condiments, other items, and also restaurant services.

They partnered with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to expand their activities. This is their 10th group loan cycle.

Fanta is seen in the photo standing first from the right. She plans to use her loan to buy clothing. She buys her merchandise at the Grand market and sells at retail for cash to a diverse customer base, from her home and at the market.

The other group members expect to earn an average profit of 175,500CFA each for this cycle, whereas Fanta expects her own profit to reach 195,000FCFA. In addition to loan repayment, the group members will use part of their revenue to cover personal expenses and to bolster their working capital.
