A loan of $1,600 helped to buy groceries, as well as Avon and Yanbal products.

María Divina's story

The Balzar communal bank meets every two weeks in San Placido parish, in Puerto Viejo canton. This place is known for its friendly and hard-working people, the majority of whom are engaged in farming.

In this place lives Maria. She is 61 years old, married and has four adult children, who are independent. Her husband farms.

María has a grocery store in her home. There she sells all kinds of products, from groceries to Avon and Yanbal products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume and women's accessories). She works every day from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m., and sometimes later. Her husband helps her in her work when he is free, especially at night and on weekends. She has had her store for 18 years, and started it with the first loan she received from the communal bank.

She is going to use this loan to further stock her store. She is going to buy groceries, as well as Avon and Yanbal products. She has been in the communal bank since the beginning, and likes it because thanks to the loans, she started her business which is allowing them to move forward. Her dream is to continue increasing her business.
