Ruth María's story

The members of the Rocafuerte Community Bank meet every fifteen days in the canton of Rocafuerte. This area is known for the delicious sweets made by the local residents. These products are recognized throughout all of Ecuador.

Ruth lives in this area. She is a 67-year-old married woman with four adult children. She and her husband live in one of their children's homes. Her husband was a farmer but is now retired.

In order to earn money, Ruth sells clothing as well as Avon and Yanbal products such as cosmetics and women's accessories. She works every morning, selling her products door-to-door and taking orders. She extends credit to her customers and collects the balances due in two or three installments, depending on the value of the item. Her best-selling items are cosmetics and perfumes. She has been in this business for over eight years, and things are going well. She is able to earn enough money for her medical expenses and those of her husband.

She is seeking this loan in order to purchase clothing, perfumes, jewelry and creams. She has been a member of this communal bank for fourteen years. She is the treasurer of the bank, and she likes it very much because the loans have helped her a great deal.

Her dream is to have good health.
